Chlorophyll Extraction and Flourescence photo

This is an experiment I did with my class in science yesterday. We started with getting our equipment. The equipment we used was a mortar, pestle, leaves, iso-propyl-alcohol, chronical flask, test tuber, filter paper and a funnel. We used the leaves and added iso-propyl-alcohol into it to get the pigment (chlorophyll) from the leaves. After we got a nice dark green colour from the leaves we fillterd it into a test tube. Then we took it to the fume chamber and shined the uv light on the (chlorophyll pigment). After we shined the uv light on to the (chlorophyll pigment) it changed into a red glowing colour. Kind of like how a glow stick works. This created a example of photosynthesis. I learnt about what (chlorophyll) means and what it does.  It means a green pigment from green leaves or green plants. When I saw the uv light shine onto the (chlorophyll pigment) and change it into a red glowy colour it was very interesting to me.

Carbon dioxide + Water  –>  Oxygen and Sugar .

This is the equation for photosynthesis. For photosynthesis to work it requires Chlorophyll and light.
